Book Club Norms:

  • I will come prepared to every book club.

  • I will read the assigned pages each day.

  • I will keep an eye out for Notice&Note Signposts and record the ones I find by placing a sticky note or writing in my novel.

  • I will write the Journal Entry each day to the best of my ability and I will put in an honest effort.

  • I will contribute to discussions by sharing my honest thoughts and by responding to others appropriately using Accountable Talk strategies.

    Using what you have read so far, the summary on the back of the book, what you have read in your social studies textbook, and any prior knowledge you may have, explain the historical context of this novel. Where and when does the story take place? What is happening in this location that has an impact on the main characters? What is life like for these characters as a result of what is happening in their world historically? How do you expect them to react to these historical events? Explain!
